Less than 100 companies control the majority of digital content distribution: this is the problem that Wemark has identified. Big agencies like Shutterstock and Getty Images control most of this market: they allow photographers to reach a large audience, but in return they must sign away most of the rights to their work and give up to 85% of its price in agency fees.
Wemark seeks to provide an alternative to such agencies by creating a distributed, peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace for stock photos using blockchain technology.
